--> The schedule for the World Horseshoe Pitching Tournament in York, PA can be found at National Horseshoe Pitchers Association webpage: www.horseshoepitching.com Just click anywhere on the World Tournament logo, and you'll be linked to a page with just about everything you'd like to know about the tournament, including classes and schedules. The Championship classes (the top percentage pitchers from the previous classes) starts tomorrow, Thursday 7/17/08 and continues through Saturday 7/19/08. There is no admission fee, but I would suggest you get here early to get a good seat.

--> The NHPA convention the morning of 7/13, and the NHPA banquet the evening of 7/13 will be held in the "Pennsylvania Room" and the "White Rose" room. See the map on the EPHPA bulletin board in the front lobby.

--> No outside alcohol is allowed to be brought into the the Expo Center buildings. There is beer available in Memorial Hall. This is Pennsylvania State Law.

--> We are set up and ready to go. All we need now is YOU ! The WT pits will be open for practice up until 1:00 PM on Sunday, 7/6/08, after that, we're closing down to clean up for the start of the tournament on 7/7/08.

--> The practice courts at Horticultural Hall will be open until 11:00 PM each night starting Sunday 7/6/08. There are also practice courts at our Shiloh club less than 3 miles away.

--> Congratulations to the winners of the World Tournament Volunteer Invitational: Chris Woods, Gene Bixler, Jo An Douglas, and Terry Halvorsen. These pitchers have won reserved parking spaces in front of the Expo Center for the duration of the World Tournament.

--> For those of you are not attending this year's world tournament, Jerry LaBrosse offered to try to bring it to you, via pictures. According to Jerry, "This facility is the best I've possibly ever seen to host this tournament. We have plenty of room, and everything is modern and clean."

Jerry's loaded a photo album on Shutterfly for your viewing pleasure. You don't download anything, just view and enjoy, he suggests a "slideshow". These photos were compiled from different cameras, so the order is a little messed up, but you'll get the idea of whats happened here so far. click the link

--> June 30th: We have some different EPHPA members joining us today (fresh backs!) as others return to work. So far we have had help from EPHPA, WPHPA, Illinois, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, and of course North Carolina and Minnesota.

The practice pits are completely set-up, and the volunteers are using them every night. Guess we're not working the crew hard enough. Actually, we've had about 50 folks/day, and if we didn't enforce breaks, they wouldn't stop at all. All the new mats are laid, the WT pits are all placed, 75% of the clay is set, stenciling is more than 50% done (Jerry LaBrosse has it down to a science), and we're starting on the fencing. Quick joke... how many horseshoe pitchers does it take to move a 40' stencil ? Answer? You'll have to wait and see; I'll post the link to the photos asap.

We should be ready for the WT by Thursday, 7/4... tried to convince Paul Stewart to start the WT early, but he wouldn't go for it.

The WT courts will be ready for practice pre-tournament, but all the buildings will be locked by 4PM on July 4th (July 5th raindate)since the entire town of York and surrounding areas come to the Expo Center for the 4th of July celebration.

--> Please plan on joining us July 9, 11, & 13   for 3 special dinners while at the World Tournament. Oklahoma is hosting a BBQ on July 9th, The Expo Center is throwing us a dinner party complete with cash bar and DJ on July 11th, and of course we have the NHPA Banquet on July 13th. The cost for the BBQ and Expo party are TBD, but we'll keep the cost as low as possible.

--> Expo Center is hosting a huge fireworks celebration on the 4th of July. If you are camping at the Expo Center, please do not plan on arriving on July 4th, the fairgrounds will be packed with people and vehicles, please check-in either July 3rd or 5th. July 5th is the raindate for this event.

--> Campsites at the Expo Center include water and electric hook-up, 2 free dump stations. There are showers available at the York Expo Center.

--> There will be NO admission charge for spectators at the 2008 World Tournament in York.

--> All Pennsylvania Pitchers (and anyone else interested): 2008 World Tournament volunteer opportunities are available starting June 28th. Please let me know when you're able to help... even shifts of 2 hours would be greatly appreciated ! Physical and non-physical assistance needed.

--> The tournament schedule, welcome letter, and entry by states is now posted. See the front page of National Horseshoe Pitchers Association: www.horseshoepitching.com

--> If you are volunteering with set-up prior to the start of the World Tournament, please contact Dale at pennshoes@yahoo.com for requested tools or supplies. Please make sure you bring work gloves and kneeling pads if you have them.

--> Registration for the World Tournament is currently 1300+ pitchers
